Art Lesson
Today for art we worked on a line design, which will be hung up in the classroom and then sent home with the students. It was a lot of fun to create our art. Here are some pictures of us!

Scholastic Book Order
Today I am sending home a Scholastic Book Order, which brings back good memories for me when I was a student. I always enjoyed ordering new books, whether they are an old favorite or a newer popular book.
Most of the books are paperbacks, and they are more affordable than most bookstores. The students get very excited about getting books when they arrive to the classroom-some books are only $1.00.
If you wish to order books, please return the order by September 4th, 2014.
If you are sending money in with your child, please be sure it is in a sealed envelope. You may send cash or a check. Checks should be made out to the book company, Scholastic. Books typically arrive within 2-3 weeks.
Please do not forget to include the order form, too! :)
Should you wish your order to be a gift, please let me know and I will hold them at the school for you to pic up. Otherwise, books will be sent home with your child when they arrive.

First Week in First Grade
Hi all!
We had a great first week! We got to know each other and spent a lot of time setting up our routines in the classroom so the rest of the year would go smoothly. We have a great group if first graders that are ready to learn. Last week, we started working on our Math, we are doing addition sentences, so if you would like to do some practicing at home,that would be great. We also started Daily 5, we are doing Read to Self, the students are practicing their stamina. This year, we are going to be journaling and working on our writing. I will be keeping these throughout the year and will send them home with the students at the end of the year.
A couple of reminders, check your child's folder and planner to see what we did that day and if you haven't sent in a family picture, do that if you can. We have a bulletin board set up in the classroom, you will get your picture back. I am having a great time with your kids, they are a really good bunch!

First Day Pictures
Welcome to 1st Grade!
Hello all!
We are having a great first day! Today we are talking about routines and getting used to our classroom. We talked about the different kind of jobs we have in the classroom. We are going to take pictures for our birthday wall. I hope to celebrate everyone's birthday through the year. If students have birthdays in the summer, we can celebrate at their half birthday or at another time that is set up with Miss Kapaun.
Emersyn lost a tooth today during lunch. We will be taking a class picture this afternoon. We took pictures for the first day of first grade, I will be posting them on the blog later on this afternoon. We had time to use the computers today for a type to learn program, the students really enjoy it! Today we started reading a chapter book after lunch to relax and color before starting our day again.
